The Curtis Long Memorial Scholarship awards educational funding to two RE-1 Valley graduates (current or former) who plan a career in some form of public service. Preference will be given to applicants who have a strong community service commitment.
Curtis Long was dedicated to public service, both professional and privately. Included among the thousands of hours he volunteered for civic and community organizations, Mr. Long passionately served as the President of the Re-1 Valley School Board as well as serving as the Personnel Director for the City of Sterling.

Criteria

You must be a graduate of the RE-1 Valley School District. Current year graduates as well as past
graduates are encouraged to apply.

You must plan to continue your education at an accredited college or university or enroll
in a certified fire, police or emergency medical program.

You must show proof of acceptance into an accredited college or university or acceptance in a
certified fire, police or emergency medical program.

You must be planning to enter a career in any form of public service including government
service, social work, education, health care, or not for profit businesses. If applicant is unsure
if a career criterion is met, contact the RE-1 Valley Foundation.

You must write an essay addressing the following questions: “How will my career in public service
help improve the community I plan to live in?” and "How has my previous community service
involvement guided me in choosing my future career plans?" The essay must be typewritten or
computer generated, double-spaced, and not more than two pages in length. Applicants should
state their specific career choice in the essay and then address the topic
6. You must include a copy of your most recent transcript. Graduating seniors must include a copy of
their high school transcripts. Applicants completing higher education work must
submit a copy of the most current transcript from their institution of learning.
7. Applications must be complete, signed and post marked by March 18, 2012 to be
considered. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS. Applications must be submitted to:
RE-1 Valley Foundation, P.O. Box 246, Sterling, CO 80751.
8. Three current and dated letters of recommendations must be included in the application and must be
mailed with the application.
9. FAXED or E-mailed applications will not be accepted.
10.New scholarships of $500 will be awarded annually to two selected applicants. A scholarship may
be renewable annually for up to a total of four years of a college education upon proof of
full-time enrollment and a GPA of 3.0 on the college level.
11.Scholarship money will be presented directly to the higher education institution of enrollment for
the fall term.
